The Expert Guide to Δ9 THC Gummies (Where to Buy in 2024)

Delta-9 THC is the primary active ingredient in Cannabis sativa. This compound is banned in many countries, but loopholes in the US allow them to be sold in just about every state.

Δ9 THC (D9) gummies are made from a hemp extract that contains less than 0.3% THC, making them completely legal in the United States and most other countries across the globe.

Although not as potent as gummies made from cannabis extract (containing more than 0.3% THC), delta-9 gummies can induce (mostly) the same high. Pure D9 is more stimulating than raw cannabis extract and fades away about 20% more quickly. Its advantages are its low cost, ease of dosing, and accessibility through legal loopholes.

In this article, we’ll be looking at the top five best delta-9 THC gummies as well as assessing safety, legality, effects, and potential benefits.

Top 7 Best Delta-9 THC Gummies

Not all delta-9 THC gummies are the same. Many brands claim that their gummies are the best and most potent on the market, but this isn’t always the case. It’s important to do your research and find a reputable brand instead of buying the first “delta-9” gummy you find.

Here are 7 of the best genuine, high-quality delta-9 THC gummies:

1. Area 52 UFO Full-Spectrum Gummies

Area 52 UFO Full-Spectrum Gummies

Area 52 has two versions of their UFO (delta-9) gummies. The Classic UFO gummies came out first and contain 5 mg of hemp-derived delta-9 and other hemp-derived cannabinoids. These are great for microdosing or inducing a light, relaxing, “functional” high.

Later, the company figured out a way to maximize the THC levels while remaining within federal limits and launched the UFO “Max” gummies. These are more interesting for people who want to use hemp-derived delta-9 recreationally. Area 52’s UFO Max gummies contain 15 mg of delta-9 THC, 100 mg of CBD, and 5 mg of CBG (cannabigerol) per gummy. This makes them some of the strongest delta-9 gummies on the market that are actually Farm Bill compliant (federally legal).

Area 52 has achieved this impressive potency while remaining compliant by increasing the weight of each gummy. Each one remains below the legal threshold of 0.3% THC by weight but contains more than enough THC to induce psychoactive effects.

The gummies utilize a full-spectrum supercritical CO2 extract from US-grown hemp and contain all-natural ingredients. They’re available in packs of 30 gummies and have a natural mango flavoring and terpenes derived from the cannabis strain “Green Crack.”

If you’re looking for the most potent legal delta-9 THC gummies on the market, look no further.

What is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)?

Tetrahydrocannabinol — better known as “THC” — is the primary psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. It’s THC that’s responsible for the “high” that occurs after smoking, eating, or vaping cannabis.

THC, like other cannabinoids such as CBD (cannabidiol), works by binding to cannabinoid receptors that are part of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) present in the human body. The ECS is an essential component in the regulation of various physical and psychological processes.

When THC binds to the CB1 cannabinoid receptors in the brain, it leads to alterations in perception, mood, and cognition. This results in heightened sensory perception, changes in time perception, and altered thought processes — in short, it “gets you high.”

THC is a broad term for a variety of subtly different cannabinoids. The most abundant type of THC in cannabis is delta-9. However, other forms such as delta-8, delta-10, THCP, HHC, and other analogs also exist.

Let’s take a look at what makes these forms of THC different:

What is Delta-9 THC?

Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9 THC) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis. It’s the most abundant and strongest form of THC readily available in psychoactive concentrations in cannabis flowers. When people use the term “THC” they’re usually referring to this isomer.

It’s responsible for the euphoric and relaxing effects associated with the consumption of cannabis. The problem with delta-9 is its legality. It’s specifically named on the DEA’s list of restricted substances and is the reason that cannabis is illegal in the United States and many other countries worldwide.

Delta-9 THC is only legal in hemp with concentrations below 0.3%. The federal government imposed this law in the 2018 “Farm Bill” which removed hemp from the DEA’s list of restricted substances. This legalized the cultivation of hemp and its commercialization under certain conditions.

Delta-9 THC molecule

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC is structurally similar to delta-9 THC but it has a slightly different arrangement of atoms. Delta-8 THC has a double bond at the eighth carbon, making it legal in most countries. Delta-8 THC is psychoactive, but its effects are milder and more “mellow” compared to delta-9 THC.

This structural analog is found in hemp and cannabis at concentrations below 1%. Compared to delta-9 THC in cannabis which is present in percentages of 5% to 30%, this is extremely low.

At these low concentrations, Delta-8 is inactive. In order to induce noticeable psychoactive effects, the cannabinoid must be extracted and concentrated to produce tinctures, oils, and edibles such as gummies.

Delta-8 THC Molecule

What is THCP (Tetrahydrocannabiphorol)?

THCP is found in cannabis and hemp in significantly low concentrations. It must be extracted and concentrated to be effective. This cannabinoid is reportedly 3 to 33 times stronger than regular delta-9 THC, although most people believe it’s nearer the lower end of this range.

THCP is expensive to manufacture due to its low concentrations in hemp and it boasts more negative side effects compared to delta-9 and delta-8 THC.

THCP Molecule

What is HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol)?

HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol) is another THC analog that’s defined by its lack of any double bonds in its molecular structure. It’s capable of inducing an intense high similar to delta-9 THC but is a hydrogenated product, meaning it’s often considered synthetic.

HHC Molecule

THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid)

THCA is the raw version of THC found naturally in high amounts in the cannabis plant. Once heated, the acid group is removed and the molecule becomes active.

THCA was long overlooked as an unuseful, non-psychoactive cannabinoid, but is now taking the spotlight as the newest legal loophole for psychoactive cannabis products. THCA flower is essentially just marijuana, but it’s federally legal because THC levels remain below the 0.3% legal threshold. Once heated (through smoking, vaping, or baking), all that THCA is converted to THC.

What is THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin)?

THCV is a rare cannabinoid found only in modest concentrations in specific African landrace strains. There are at least two different types of THCV — delta-8 THCV and delta-9 THCV.

This cannabinoid is considered mildly stimulating, but only about 30% as strong as THC. It’s often used in formulas geared toward focus and concentration, but otherwise, it isn’t used very often.

THCV Molecule

What is THC-O (Tetrahydrocannabinol Ether)?

THC-O is a semisynthetic version of THC designed to have a higher bioavailability. The molecule itself isn’t stronger than THC, but because of how easily it’s absorbed through the lungs and digestive tract, many consider it roughly double the potency gram for gram compared to THC.

What Are Delta-9 Gummies?

Delta-9 gummies are edible, chewy candies that have been infused with hemp-derived THC and other cannabinoids present in Cannabis sativa.

Although hemp-derived delta-9 gummies aren’t as strong as cannabis-derived THC gummies, they are capable of inducing psychoactive effects. They may also host a range of medicinal benefits. Some people use these gummies for pain relief, easing symptoms of anxiety, aiding in sleep promotion, and reducing inflammation.

The main psychoactive component in these gummies is delta-9 THC, but a range of other cannabinoids enhance its effects through something known as “the entourage effect” [1].

The entourage effect is a phenomenon where other cannabinoids in cannabis and hemp work synergistically to modulate and potentiate the effects of THC. It’s believed that the entourage effect is the reason full-spectrum cannabinoid products are more effective (in terms of psychoactivity and health benefits) than cannabinoid isolates (products containing only one cannabinoid).

Cannabinoids Found in Delta-9 THC Gummies:

Full-spectrum delta-9 THC gummies are more effective than gummies that contain a THC isolate. Most gummies will also contain significant levels (20 mg or more) of CBD per gummy.

High-quality full-spectrum delta-9 THC gummies contain these cannabinoids:

  • Delta-9 THC
  • THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin)
  • CBD (Cannabidiol)
  • CBG (Cannabigerol)
  • CBN (Cannabinol)
  • CBC (Cannabichromene)
  • CBDA (Cannabidiolic Acid)

The Effects of Legal Delta-9 Gummies

The effects of hemp-derived delta-9 THC gummies can vary based on factors such as dosage, individual tolerance, and metabolism. With that said, a range of psychoactive effects are consistently experienced when doses of 15 mg or more are consumed.

Delta-9 gummies are capable of inducing a range of effects, including:

  • Altered perception
  • Analgesic (pain-relieving) effects
  • Anti-nausea effects
  • Enhanced sensory experience
  • Euphoria
  • Increased appetite (“munchies”)
  • Increased creativity
  • Relaxation
  • Time distortion

Delta-9 THC Gummies Dosage Guide

The effective dose of delta-9 THC depends on a variety of factors, such as body weight, sensitivity, tolerance, and desired effects.

If you wish to use delta-9 gummies recreationally (to get high), an effective dose will be somewhere between 10 and 30 mg.

If you want to use delta-9 THC gummies for pain relief, sleep promotion, or stress relief but don’t want to experience intense psychoactive effects, a more appropriate dose will be 2.5 to 5 mg.

If you’re not experienced with cannabis or hemp-derived THC products, it’s important to start with a low dose, 5 mg or less, and gradually increase it until the desired effects are achieved. Don’t up the dose too quickly. Make sure to wait one to two hours before consuming another gummy, taking note of how your body responds at each “level.”

Are Delta-9 Gummies Legal?

Delta-9 THC gummies are made from hemp extract containing less than 0.3% THC. This means they’re Farm Bill compliant, making them completely legal in the United States. They are also legal in Canada and several European countries.

Although hemp-derived delta-9 gummies are federally legal in the United States, it’s vital to assess local legislation before ordering to your state and municipality. Some states may have more restrictive legislation on the sale and purchase of hemp-derived products such as delta-9 and delta-8 THC gummies.

Under Idaho state law, the sale and purchase of any hemp-derived product that contains delta-9 THC is restricted. Any cannabinoid products that contain more than 0.0% THC are illegal.

Are Delta-9 THC Gummies Safe?

Yes. delta-9 gummies are considered safe to consume, provided they contain a high-quality extract and are consumed responsibly.

These gummies can impair cognitive and motor functions. They should not be consumed while driving, operating heavy machinery, or undertaking activities that require full attention and important decision-making.

While delta-9 THC is generally well-tolerated by most, it can lead to side effects such as anxiety, paranoia, dry mouth, and increased heart rate in some users. These effects are typically dose-dependent and come down to individual sensitivity to THC.

The main danger of these gummies comes from the lack of regulation in the cannabinoid supplement market…

Not All Delta-9 Gummies Are Trustworthy

Not all delta-9 gummies are legit. There are several low-quality gummies on the market that either contain illegal concentrations of delta-9 THC or percentages too low to induce any noticeable effects. Some unethical companies may also use synthetic cannabinoids in their gummies because they “get you higher” than hemp-derived cannabinoids.

Hemp products are pretty much unregulated. The only thing the government cares about is whether cannabinoid gummies are Farm Bill compliant — contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC. There’s no guarantee that what’s on the label is what’s inside.

Mislabeling is a huge problem in the cannabinoid supplement industry because there’s no regulatory force preventing unethical companies from lying about what’s inside their gummies, vapes, or tinctures.

A study commissioned by the Cannabis Consumer Research Company (CBC Oracle) and published in the Journal of Cannabis Research has uncovered the inconsistency and mislabeling of “hemp-derived” delta-9 THC products [2].

The research discovered the following:

  • 49% of the 53 products tested used delta-9 THC made through chemical modification of CBD
  • 66% of the products contained a dose that differed by more than 10% of what’s stated on the packaging
  • 26% used delta-9 THC sourced from federally illegal cannabis rather than hemp

Perhaps most concerning, 71.1% of the brands did not provide lab reports that checked for impurities to their customers.

The state of the legal delta-9 THC space isn’t good. It’s impossible to know whether what’s stated on a pack of delta-9 gummies is the truth or a lie. With that said, consumers can do a few things to identify a legitimate brand.

How to Find a Reputable THC Gummy Brand

There are several poor-quality delta-9 gummies on the market, and it can be difficult to find a genuine brand that manufactures legal edibles that actually work.

Follow the tips below when searching for a delta-9 THC brand to buy gummies from:

1. Research Brands

The first step in finding a legitimate delta-9 THC brand is to research several different companies — don’t just get fixated on one because of its bold potency claims or low price point.

Check for an online presence. If the brand has a social media account, scroll through the posts and comments. Look for praise from genuine personal accounts or disgruntled customers leaving angry comments.

Take the reviews on the brand’s website with a pinch of salt. If every single review on the website is overly positive, they’re probably fake. Instead, take to the internet to find genuine customer feedback on cannabis forums and Reddit.

You’ll find that bad companies leave a trail of disappointed customers. Good companies may have fewer reviews outside of their website, but you’ll find at least a few people praising the company somewhere online.

2. Assess Ingredient Lists & Product Descriptions

Once you’ve found a reputable-looking brand, the next step is to assess the ingredients list and product descriptions

Scammy companies will often use ill-written language or AI-generated descriptions. If you think the description is bad, the gummies probably aren’t much better. Avoid companies that have poorly written descriptions that are vague, uninformative, and don’t describe the product well.

A reputable brand that manufactures a high-quality product will spend time and money on decent marketing. The descriptions will be well-written and contain facts about their products that are backed up by data or genuine testimonials.

An ingredient list should be present, either as an image (back side of the packaging) or written. It should include “hemp-derived delta-9 THC extract” (or similar) and detail the other active and inactive ingredients — other cannabinoids, sugar, glucose syrup, pectin, etc.

3. Look for Third-Party Testing

Check for third-party testing. Any legitimate cannabinoid supplement brand will send their products off to a third party for laboratory testing. They should display the results on their website and all data sheets (certificates of analysis) should be less than one year old.

Ensure the cannabinoids listed match up to the brand’s claim and check for any impurities.

4. Assess Hemp Source & Quality

Assess the hemp source used in the manufacture of the brand’s gummies. Is it organic? Grown locally?

Also, check to see if the brand states that the gummies are Farm Bill compliant — making them federally legal in the United States.

If the company doesn’t state that the delta-9 gummies use hemp-derived extracts or mention anything about hemp sources and Farm Bill compliance, they could be hiding something.

5. Search for Branded Packaging

This step is vital in identifying a legitimate brand. Search places like DHgate, Alibaba, and Ali Express for “delta-9 THC packaging.” If you find the brand’s packaging, end your research here — they’re unlikely legitimate.

If a brand’s packaging is available for bulk purchase, anyone can buy and fill it with gummies of their choice. This makes products that use these generic containers or bags extremely high-risk.

6. Contact the Brand’s Customer Support

Any legitimate cannabinoid supplement brand will have reliable customer service.

Contact customer support via instant message (if applicable), email, or phone. Ask questions regarding hemp source, laboratory data, potency, and/or recommended dose.

A good company will respond swiftly and with a detailed reply, answering questions fully to the best of their abilities. Avoid any company that doesn’t respond at all or replies with vague, uninformative answers about the product.

Potential Benefits of Delta-9 THC Gummies

It’s no secret that cannabis boasts several health benefits when used responsibly. So, do gummies containing hemp-derived delta-9 THC offer the same benefits?

Here are five potential benefits of consuming high-quality delta-9 gummies:

1. Relaxation & Stress Relief

delta-9 THC can be relaxing, making it effective at reducing stress. Many people use cannabis to “unwind” and “destress.”

The relaxing and mood-enhancing effects of delta-9 THC gummies may help relieve stress and improve a person’s quality of life. However, dosage is extremely important. In higher doses, some people may experience increased paranoia and anxiety from the intense psychoactive effects of the cannabinoid.

When using delta-9 THC to encourage relaxation and alleviate stress, it’s important to monitor dosage closely — starting with a low dose and gradually increasing it as needed.

2. Sleep Support

It’s no secret that cannabis can make you sleepy. This effect is due to the THC. Hemp-derived delta-9 THC is identical to THC from cannabis and is capable of inducing the same effects.

Some studies suggest that this cannabinoid can help induce sleep in people with insomnia [3]. However, other studies have found that delta-9 THC in cannabis can negatively impact nocturnal sleep, early-morning performance, memory, and sleepiness when used at doses higher than 15 mg [4]. These effects may be combated by lowering the dose of THC and increasing CBD consumption.

Further study is needed to discover whether delta-9 THC promotes healthy sleep. The effects vary from person to person, so whether the positive effects on sleep outweigh the negative “sluggishness” that may occur in the morning comes down to your sensitivity to the cannabinoid.

3. Appetite Stimulation

Cannabis is famous for inducing an effect many of us call “the munchies.” Although this effect can make you raid the fridge at midnight, eating all kinds of crazy concoctions, it can be useful.

The appetite stimulation from delta-9 THC can be helpful for people with eating disorders, body weight issues, and people on medications with appetite-suppressing side effects.

4.  Pain-Relief

Delta-9 THC may provide pain relief for a variety of chronic pain conditions. Studies suggest that this and other cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant help reduce pain through its agonistic action at the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system [5].

These receptors are involved in pain modulation. THC’s agonistic action at these receptors inhibits the release of glutamate and 5-hydroxytryptamine and alters dopaminergic function, directly affecting pain pathways.

5. Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Delta-9 THC affinity with the CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system is closely linked to anti-inflammatory responses. However, studies show that the cannabinoid may not be as effective when used on its own. CBD, CBG, and THC appear to work synergistically to produce anti-inflammatory effects [6].

If you plan on trying delta-9 gummies to help reduce inflammation, it’s important to select a full-spectrum product that contains a variety of cannabinoids rather than a delta-9 THC isolate.

Frequently Asked Questions: D9 Gummies

If you want to learn more about delta-9 THC and other cannabinoid gummies, have a read through the answers to some common questions we’ve received below.

If you still have a question you want answered, send us a message at: feedback@tripsitter.com.

1. What Other Cannabinoid Gummies Exist?

Delta-9 THC isn’t the only cannabinoid used to make gummies. There are several other cannabinoids used to make gummies — some that boast potential health benefits but aren’t psychoactive, such as CBD, and others, such as delta-8 THC, that are capable of inducing a potent high.

Here are some legal cannabinoids that may be used in gummies:

  • CBD (Cannabidiol)
  • CBDA (Cannabidiolic Acid)
  • CBDV (Cannabidivarin)
  • CBG (Cannabigerol)
  • CBGV (Cannabigerivarin)
  • CBN (Cannabinol)
  • CBC (Cannabichromene)
  • CBCA (Cannabichromenic Acid)
  • CBL (Cannabicyclol)
  • Delta-8 THC (Delta-8 Tetrahydrocannabinol)
  • Delta-10 THC (Delta-10 Tetrahydrocannabinol)
  • THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid)
  • THCP (Tetrahydrocannabiphorol)
  • THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin)
  • HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol)

2. Are Delta-9 THC Gummies Similar to Delta-8 THC Gummies?

Delta-8 THC is a structural analog of delta-9 THC. Both of these cannabinoids share a similar molecular structure except for a double bond at the eighth carbon — hence the name “delta-8 THC.”

The effects of both D9 and D8 THC are remarkably similar. However, delta-8 is less intense and is described as a “dulled down version of delta-9 THC.” With that said, due to the lack of restrictions surrounding delta-8 in most countries, legal D8 edibles are often more potent than legal D9 edibles — producing a more potent high from fewer gummies.

3. What Age Must You Be to Purchase THC Gummies?

Any reputable cannabinoid supplement brand will ask for age verification upon entry to the website and proof of age during checkout. The legal age to purchase delta-9 gummies varies depending on location.

  • You must be at least 21 years old to purchase delta-9 gummies in the United States.
  • You must be at least 19 years old in Canada to purchase delta-9 gummies.
  • You must be at least 18 years old to purchase delta-9 gummies in the United Kingdom.
  • You must be 18 years old to purchase delta-9 gummies in the European Union.

4. Do Delta-9 Gummies Show Up on Drug Tests?

Yes. Although the amount of delta-9 THC present in full-spectrum gummies is less than 0.3%, they may trigger a positive result on a drug test.

Whether a positive result is possible depends on a variety of factors such as body weight, when the gummies were last consumed, how regularly they’re consumed, and how many are taken throughout a set period.

The type of test performed also plays a role. In places such as the UK, parts of continental Europe, and certain states in the US where there are set “legal limits” for THC, full-spectrum delta-9 gummies may not trigger a positive result on roadside drug tests. However, drug tests used in employment may be more sensitive — producing a positive result on minor levels of THC.

5. Are “Full-Spectrum” Delta-9 Gummies the Same as CBD Gummies?

No. Although full-spectrum delta-9 gummies contain a range of cannabinoids, including CBD, the main active compound is delta-9.

Full-spectrum delta-9 gummies contain a range of cannabinoids, including CBD. However, the prominent active cannabinoid (present in the highest concentration) is delta-9 THC. These gummies are capable of inducing a range of psychoactive effects.
