Mississippi Shroom Strain: An Abundant Fruiter With a Mysterious History
The all-American magic mushroom from the deep South has a few tricks up its sleeve.
Mississippi shrooms refer to a genetically isolated strain of Psilocybe cubensis (magic mushrooms).
The Mississippi strain was originally harvested near the Mississippi river, which suggests it’s closely related to the Acadian Coast and Dixieland strains — all of which share similar growth habits and potency.
Little is known about the specific origins or who to give credit for the development of this popular strain.
The Mississippi strain is relatively resistant to mold and disease and has an average potency. It grows with some large shrooms interspersed with much smaller ones.
This strain is ubiquitous these days — you can find spores from virtually all vendors.

Mississippi Shrooms Potency & Psilocybin Content
The psychedelic potency of the Mississippi strain is roughly average compared to other Psilocybe cubensis strains. While there isn’t enough analytical data to provide an accurate average potency for this strain, we estimate the potency is somewhere in the ballpark of 0.5% and 0.9% total tryptamine content (by dried weight).

Mississippi Shroom Variations & Genetic Relatives
Given how little is known about the Mississippi strain, it’s difficult to say with certainty what strains are related to it. There is no evidence that any variations have been developed directly from the Mississippi strain. (such as an albino offshoot).
Mushroom strains obtained from samples growing around the same region as the Mississippi strain include the Acadian Coast strain and the Dixieland strain.
Where to Buy Mississippi Shroom Spores
Since the Mississippi strain is not a particularly popular one, you might have difficulty finding vendors who sell it.
Ralphster’s Spores is likely your best option if you live in the US. As of this writing, the strain is available in syringes. You can also check Spores 101, Lil Shop of Spores, and High Desert Spores, although neither of these companies carried the strain when we checked.
If you live in Canada, you may have a harder time, but you can check Sporeslab, Spores 101, and Spore Door, but none of these vendors carried the strain when we last checked.
If you live in Europe, you’re even less likely to find this strain. Local growers are unlikely to have a sample they can share, and stores like The Magic Mushroom Shop and Viking Spore weren’t carrying it at the time of writing.

How to Grow Mississippi Shrooms
Mississippi shrooms are quite photogenic, often displaying a large, bulbous cap and a decent-sized stem. The strain is known for producing a few large fruiting bodies interspersed with many other smaller ones. The strain naturally prefers mammal dung, but brown rice flour and rye grain both produce good harvests as well.

Dixieland Shrooms
As mentioned above, Dixieland shrooms hail from the same general location as the Mississippi strain. These shrooms have a lot of similarities with Mississippi mushrooms when it comes to physical appearance and growing patterns, likely because they are closely related.
Acadian Coast Shrooms
The Acadian Coast shrooms are just as mysterious as the Mississippi strain. Little is known about their origin, although it’s suspected that they grow along the Mississippi River, much like the Mississippi strain. These shrooms also have an average potency.
Panama Shrooms
The Panama shrooms were initially collected in Panama and isolated by Ralphster of Ralphster’s Spores. Little is known about the strain beyond its origin, but much like Mississippi shrooms, they grow several large shrooms with many smaller ones between them. They also have a similar potency to Mississippi shrooms.
