The Albino Chodewave strain is a genetic off-shoot of the original Chodewave strain — a rare Psilocybe cubensis strain. This albino variant is identical to the original strain, but it produces pure white fruits.
With genetics from the infamous Penis Envy and Tidal Wave strains, Albino Chodewave is, unsurprisingly, very potent. The strain backed up its potent lineage with a win in the Spring 2022 Psilocybin Cup. The winning sample produced a respectable 1.47% total tryptamines.
Albino Chodewave mushrooms share characteristics with both Penis Envy and Tidal wave. The stems are thick, and the caps are bell-shaped — they occasionally flatten out as they mature. However, many caps cease to open fully, making spore collection difficult.
For an albino, these mushrooms are relatively easy to cultivate. They are fairly resistant to contamination, aren’t prone to aborts, and can grow in an unoptimized environment. Even beginners should be able to cultivate this strain.

History of the Albino Chodewave Strain
The origins of the Albino Chodewave strain are a bit of a mystery. It’s an albino variant of the original Chodewave strain — a hybridization of Albino Penis Envy and Tidal Wave. However, the original strain is a mystery, too — we’re unsure who or when it was created.
One thing’s for certain: this strain was isolated from a mutation of the original Chodewave strain. It’s a true albino — it produces no pigmentation in the cap, stem, or spores.
It seems to have appeared at some point through the 2010s and had its claim to fame during the Spring 2022 Oakland Hyphae Psilocybin Cup when it won “Therapeutic Champion” with an overall tryptamine content of 1.47%.
Potency & Psilocybin Content
We’ve rated the Albino Chodewave strain as “above average” potency. These shrooms produce an average psilocybin content of 1.09%, an average psilocin level of 0.06%, and a total tryptamine content of 1.19%.
A sample of the Albino Chodewave strain famously won a spot as “Therapeutic Champion” in the Spring 2022 Oakland Hyphae Psilocybin Cup. The sample — grown by the cultivator “Purple Mystic Myco” — produced a total tryptamine content of 1.47%, a 1.26% psilocybin level, and a 0.81% psilocin level.
This strain can produce some impressively high tryptamine profiles when grown under ideal conditions.
Albino Chodewave Variations & Genetic Relatives
Although the history and origins of the Albino Chodewave strain are rather blurry, it does have a few genetic relatives that we know of.
Here are some of Albino Chodewave’s “mother strains” and genetic relatives:
1. Chodewave
The Chodewave strain is the original pigmented version of the Albino Chodewave strain. It’s a cross between Albino Penis Envy and Tidal Wave. The mushrooms have thick white stems and bell-shaped, golden caps.
The Chodewave strain should be very potent when you look at its genetic lineage. However, from a couple of samples entered into the Psilocybin Cup, we’ve found a measly 0.41% average tryptamine level. This may have been a fluke — mushroom potency varies drastically from one shroom to the next. This strain is likely capable of producing upwards of 1.20% total tryptamines.
2. Albino Penis Envy
Albino Penis Envy is one of the mother strains of Chodewave and its Albino variant.
This strain is a non-pigmented mutation of the original Penis Envy strain. It shares the same phallic shape and staggering potency as the original but produces pure-white fruits. Albino Penis Envy can be difficult to cultivate due to its tendency to abort fruiting.
The average Albino Penis Envy shroom produces around 0.97% psilocybin, 0.15% psilocin, and 1.16% tryptamines.
3. Penis Envy
Penis Envy is one of the most famous and popular strains of P. cubensis. It gets its name from the penis-like mushrooms it produces and is famed for its unrivaled potency.
Surprisingly, Penis Envy is a relatively easy strain to cultivate, even for beginners. Don’t expect huge yields, but several flushes of decent-sized shrooms are possible.
The average Penis Envy mushroom produces around 0.96% psilocybin, 0.15% psilocin, and 1.15% total tryptamines.
4. Tidal Wave
Tidal Wave is the second mother strain of Chodewave and Albino Chodewave. This strain famously won the Spring 2021 Psilocybin Cup with a staggering total tryptamine level of 3.82% (2.26% psilocybin and 1.56% psilocin).
This strain is potent and easy to cultivate, but you probably won’t get similar potencies to the Psilocybin Cup winner. The average Tidal Wave shroom produces around 0.83% psilocybin, 0.30% psilocin, and 1.17% total tryptamines.

Albino Chodewave spores can be hard to come by. Strangely, they’re more accessible than the original strain and can be purchased from a small selection of spore vendors in the United States and Canada.

How to Grow Albino Chodewave Shrooms
Albino Chodewave mushrooms are easy to cultivate, even for complete newcomers to the world of mushroom cultivation.
This strain does best on rye grain but will also produce good results of BRF (brown rice flour, water, and vermiculite), but the easiest way is to utilize a method known as PF Tek (Psilocybe Fanaticus Technique). This cultivation technique is highly effective for Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, and it doesn’t cost a lot to set up.

Other White Psilocybe cubensis Strains
Albino Chodewave isn’t the only strain that produces white fruits. There are over 100 different strains of Psilocybe cubensis, all with different characteristics. Many of them are leucistic (low-pigmented) or albino (non-pigmented).
Here are some other popular white Psilocybe cubensis strains:
1. Albino A+
Albino A+ is a non-pigmented variant of the original A-Strain. This is a leucistic mutation rather than a true albino because the spores carry pigment. However, the fruits are ghostly-white.
It shares the same growth characteristics as the original A-Strain, producing large fruiting bodies, cap shape, and heavy spore production. It’s just as easy to cultivate as well. Potency is average — producing around 0.83% of total tryptamines.
2. Albino Melmac
Albino Melmac is the leucistic version of the original Melmac strain. The mushrooms are pure white but occasionally produce some pigment in the caps.
This “albino” strain to cultivate and it produces above-average potency, with a typical shroom producing 0.66% psilocybin, 0.05% psilocin, and 0.73% tryptamines.
The most potent sample of Albino Melmac entered into the Oakland Hyphae Psilocybin Cup produced a respectable tryptamine level of 1.39%.
3. Albino Treasure Coast
Albino Treasure Coast is an albino variant of the original Treasure Coast strain. It shares the same growth characteristics and potency — producing an average tryptamine content of 0.33% — but the fruits are completely non-pigmented.
This can be a tricky strain to grow, being prone to aborts and susceptible to contamination. We recommend this strain to the intermediate cultivator.
4. Avery’s Albino
The Avery’s Albino strain produces some of the most beautiful white fruiting bodies of any Psilocybe cubensis strain (in our opinion). These shrooms produce entirely white fruits that have maximum bag appeal.
Potency is average, producing a total tryptamine level of 0.64%.
Surprisingly, this true albino strain is easy to grow and can be approached by beginner cultivators.
5. True Albino Teacher
True Albino Teacher is an albino variant of the famous Golden Teacher strain. Potency and appearance are identical, except True Albino Teacher produces white fruits.
It has above-average potency, producing around 0.81% psilocybin and 0.87% total tryptamines, but can be difficult to cultivate for beginners.
6. White Rabbit
The White Rabbit strain is a hybridization of Albino Penis Envy and Moby Dick. This strain is remarkably potent, producing upwards of 1.80% total tryptamines.
Surprisingly, this ghostly strain is remarkably easy to cultivate, and even the less-experienced grower should be capable of producing decent yields over several healthy flushes.
Some people claim that this strain could rival the likes of Penis Envy and Tidal Wave in terms of potency. However, we haven’t seen any tryptamine test data to back this up.

Albino strains are certainly interesting, and we learn more about them every day. Here are some common questions and their answers.
1. How Are Albino Psilocybe cubensis Strains Created?
Albino Psilocybe cubensis strains are created by first identifying an albino mutation during cultivation. Then it’s isolated, and the spores are collected.
The albino spore samples are then cultivated several times to stabilize the strain. Once consistent albino fruits are produced, the spores are collected and distributed among the mushroom community through online spore vendors.
2. What’s the Strongest Albino Strain of Psilocybe cubensis?
The strongest albino Psilocybe cubensis strain is, without a doubt, Albino Penis Envy. It’s the most consistent regarding psilocybin and psilocin production and can produce upwards of 1.80% total tryptamines. Some samples have psilocybin levels as high as 1.73% and psilocin levels up to 0.61%.
However, it can be challenging to grow, so it isn’t ideal for anyone new to mushroom cultivation.
3. Do Any Other Magic Mushroom Species Produce Albino Mushrooms?
Albino mutations are present in many of the kingdoms of Earth — the animal, plant, and fungi kingdoms specifically.
Other psychedelic mushroom species produce albino mutations. However, due to how frequently Psilocybe cubensis is cultivated, we only tend to see isolated albino genetics for this species.
In the wild, you may stumble across albino Liberty Caps (Psilocybe semilanceata), Flying Saucers (Psilocybe azurescens), and Wavy Caps (Psilocybe cyanescens), but rarely will you see the white fruits being cultivated.
