Although psilocybin is still a restricted substance in most countries, shroom chocolates and gummies appear across the web. The “Aurora” magic mushroom chocolate brand is common online, but how can you tell if they’re legit?

Due to the legalities surrounding psilocybin chocolate, it’s unregulated by any food safety and standards agency. Consequently, there is no guaranteed method to determine how safe a specific psilocybin chocolate bar is for consumption. That said, some shroom chocolate companies appear more “legitimate” than others.

While the Aurora magic mushroom chocolate bar might appear legitimate, the brand raises as many, if not more, red flags than green flags.

Are Aurora Chocolate Bars Legit?

We’re on the fence about whether the Aurora magic mushroom chocolates are legitimate. Several companies sell magic mushroom chocolates under this brand name — many of which seem sketchy. However, there appears to be a “genuine” company functioning through social media.

In our opinion, Aurora has just as many red flags as green flags, which is why we’ve awarded it a 5/10 Trust Score. It’s up to you to decide whether this company sells real magic mushroom chocolate or not.

With that said, here are the positives and negatives we’ve found about this company:

Red Flags 🔻

You can’t be too careful when buying unregulated products like magic mushroom edibles. Here’s what we feel you need to know about Aurora’s cons.

1. Fake Websites Selling Aurora

The first red flag is the sheer number of websites selling Aurora chocolate bars. Many of these websites appear to be scams and sell other psilocybin chocolates and gummies we’ve identified as “fake.” The Aurora company that looks the most legitimate only functions through social media and warns people of the many scam websites selling fake chocolates under their name.

2. Availability of Brand Packaging

The second red flag is the availability of similar-looking Aurora-branded packaging on wholesale websites such as Alibaba and DHgate. Anyone can buy Aurora-branded packaging and put their own chocolate inside them, which is extremely worrying.

3. Lack of Information

The third red flag is the lack of information on the genuine brand’s social pages. The ingredients aren’t listed, and neither is the psilocybin source. We contacted the company for more info, and they told us they use Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms. They didn’t provide any proof of this, but that’s understandable in this illicit industry.

Green Flags 💚

Although we’ve found a few red flags with the Aurora chocolate bars, there are some positive points.

1. Social Media Reviews & Following

They have an engaged following on Instagram that seems legitimate, and there are a few reviews on Reddit praising the bars.

2. Claims to Use Real Mushrooms

After contacting the company, we were told that dehydrated Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms are used in the bars. Organic matter can be seen throughout the bars — a sign that psilocybin mushrooms are the source of the chocolate’s psychedelic effects.

We did ask if they had tested the tryptamine levels in the chocolate bars and if they would be kind enough to show us the results if they did. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a response to this question, which could be a red flag, but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt — understandably, companies in this industry are often cagey about what they share.

The Potency of Aurora Chocolate

The Aurora magic mushroom chocolate bars contain five grams (5000 mg) of magic mushrooms. The exact shrooms used in their production aren’t stated on Aurora’s social media or the chocolate’s packaging, but the company told us they use Psilocybe cubensis — an easily cultivated “average potency” shroom.

The typical P. cubensis mushroom contains 0.90% to 1.20% total tryptamines — around 1.00% combined psilocybin and psilocin. With this in mind, we estimate the Aurora magic mushroom chocolate bars contain around 50 milligrams of psilocybin/psilocin

These chocolate bars are divided into ten pieces. Each piece has around 500 mg of P. cubensis — roughly 5 mg of psilocybin.

What Do Aurora Chocolate Bars Taste Like?

The Aurora chocolate bars come in six flavors — milk chocolate, S’mores, peanut butter, strawberries & cream, cookies & cream, and sea salt dark chocolate.

The texture of the chocolate is smooth, and the flavor is sweet, with a slightly earthy aftertaste — this is a sign that the company could be using whole shrooms, which is good. Small, grainy pieces of organic matter, which could be small pieces of ground mushrooms, can also be noticed after the chocolate melts in your mouth.

Where to Buy Aurora Chocolate

Several companies sell Aurora psilocybin chocolate bars online. Unfortunately, most of the bars in online stores seem illegitimate.

There’s one company that appears to be the “real” Aurora. They don’t have a website and only market their products through social media.

To obtain Aurora chocolates, customers must head to the official Aurora Instagram page to get details of a Telegram group that sells the bars. This may seem a bit sketchy, but other legitimate brands, such as Neau Tropics, also use this method of distribution. They ship across Canada and the US but don’t guarantee delivery (for obvious reasons).

Aurora was happy to answer a few questions, but does this make them legit? I’m not so sure. They seemed friendly enough, and their Instagram account appears to have a loyal following, but this brand is still young, and it’s impossible to know the quality of the chocolates without ordering and testing them.

From my research, I’d say that the Instagram/Telegram route is the best option if you want the highest chance of obtaining legitimate Aurora magic mushroom chocolate. However, we are still not confident about the brand’s legitimacy or the chocolate’s quality.

Alternatives to Aurora Chocolate

If you’re also on the fence about the Aurora magic mushroom chocolate bars, don’t worry. Finding a legitimate brand in this space can be difficult, but a handful of companies produce high-quality psilocybin chocolate bars made with real magic mushrooms.

Here are a few great magic mushroom chocolate alternatives:

1. Blu Bijou Psilocybin Chocolate

The Blu Bijou psilocybin chocolate comes in coconut chocolate and Belgian milk chocolate flavors. It was developed in association with Blue Goba — a popular Canadian magic mushroom vendor that sells dehydrated and freeze-dried shrooms and a handful of psilocybin edibles.

These magic mushroom chocolate bars are some of the most reputable on the market. They’re made from quality ingredients and utilize three grams of lyophilized (freeze-dried) Goldmember Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms in their production.

Each bar is divided into 24 squares, each containing a 125 mg microdose. One square is appropriate for microdosing, two squares for a macrodose, and three or more will induce psychedelic effects — the more squares consumed, the stronger the trip will be.

You can buy the Blu Bijou psilocybin chocolate bars directly from the Blue Goba website (Canada only). If you see these chocolates available elsewhere, we recommend avoiding them — Blu Bijou doesn’t distribute their edibles through other vendors.

We’ve awarded the Blu Bijou psilocybin chocolate bars a 10/10 Tripsitter Ranking for their great flavor and potency and a 10/10 trust score for their unquestionable psilocybin source.

2. Neau Tropics Magic Mushroom Chocolate

The Neau Tropics magic mushroom chocolate bars come in various flavors and potencies. Two-, four-, and six-gram chocolate bars are available in milk, white, and dark chocolate, and some innovative flavors, such as strawberry shortcake, cookies & cream, birthday cake, and matcha, are also available.

The six-gram bars are the most popular, which have 6000 mg of whole Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms inside. They’re divided into 16 squares, each containing around 375 mg — this means it takes as little as two or three squares to induce a full psychedelic experience.

The Neau Tropics chocolate bars must be purchased directly through Neau Tropics. Similar to Aurora, Neau Tropics doesn’t have a website or supply products to online vendors. Contact them through one of their Instagram accounts (@neautropics or @neautropics.official). You’ll be directed to Telegram, where you can place an order.

If you see a website posing as Neau Tropics or find these chocolate bars elsewhere, don’t purchase them — they will be fakes.

We’ve awarded Neau Tropics a 9/10 Tripsitter Ranking for the vast range of flavors and impressive potency (the six-gram bars). We’ve given them a 9/10 Trust Score for their transparency through social media and clear use of Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms.

3. Bright Future Magic Chocolate

The Bright Future “Magic Chocolate” comes in two flavors — original milk chocolate and dark chocolate with sea salt. Each bar contains three grams (3000 mg) of Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms. They’re divided into ten squares, with each dosed at 300 mg.

Half a square is a suitable microdose, a full square is a light macrodose, and two or more will induce a psychedelic experience.

Bright Future is a reputable microdose company based in Canada. They sell a range of products, from microdose capsules to gummies, teas, and tinctures. Bright Future has a great reputation and is open about the ingredients used in its products.

We’ve awarded Bright Future Magic Chocolate a 10/10 Tripsitter Ranking and a 10/10 Trust Score for the company’s legitimacy, transparency, and the chocolate’s flavor, potency, and quality. You can buy the Bright Future Magic Chocolate directly from the Bright Future website or the magic mushroom vendor Zoomies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Next, I’ll answer questions people often have regarding magic mushrooms.

1. What’s Better: Psilocybin Chocolate or Psilocybin Gummies?

The two most popular psilocybin edibles are chocolates and gummies. It’s hard to say which is “better” because they both ultimately do the same thing — make consuming magic mushrooms more convenient and less disgusting.

Psilocybin gummies are generally more potent than chocolate, gram for gram. This means it takes less to induce the same effects — a bonus for those who want to use edibles for psychedelic experiences. On the other hand, the lower potency of psilocybin chocolate and how easy it is to divide into smaller doses makes it perfect for microdosing.

Whether magic mushroom chocolate or gummies are better depends on your preference and what you intend to use psilocybin for.

2. How Do You Make Magic Mushroom Chocolate?

Although several magic mushroom chocolate bars are available online, you can never be sure of their quality. If you want to be 100% of the ingredients that go into a magic mushroom chocolate bar, you’ll have to make one yourself. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to make shroom chocolates at home.

There are a few ways to do this. The easiest way is to purchase your favorite chocolate bar and a dose of magic mushrooms and combine them. You can do this by grinding up the shrooms, mixing them with lemon juice, melting the chocolate, and thoroughly combining the two before pouring it into a chocolate mold.

It’s also possible to make magic mushroom chocolate bars from raw ingredients. This takes more time and dedication, but it’s easier than you may think.

3. Are the Effects of Magic Mushroom Strains Different?

When we refer to magic mushroom “strains,” we usually refer to genetic variants of the species “Psilocybe cubensis.” It’s the most commonly cultivated psilocybin mushroom species, and has over 100 different strains, all with different appearances and potencies.

Although different from one another, all P. cubensis strains are from the same species, and all of them produce psilocybin —  though in different percentages. They all produce the same effects associated with psilocybin consumption, but one strain can vastly differ in potency from another.

What this means is that a gram of one strain — Golden Teacher, for example — can feel different from another such as Penis Envy since the two strains produce varying levels of psilocybin and psilocin. However, apart from the difference in potency, the effects are the same — it just means more (in dry weight) of a weaker strain must be consumed to achieve the same effects as less of a more potent strain.
