The company’s nootropic gummies contain a hefty dose of 300 mg psilocybin each, but we were slightly disappointed when the package arrived to see a lack of other nootropic ingredients. Nevertheless, these gummies taste great and deliver a decent dose of shrooms in every bite.

What Mushroom Strain Should I Pick?
There are hundreds of Psilocybe cubensis strains and various other psychedelic mushroom species available to buy online.
In general, magic mushrooms refer to the species Psilocybe cubensis ā 99% of the magic mushroom strains mentioned online are part of this species. Theyāre easy to cultivate, offer decent psychedelic potency, and are highly safe. It doesnāt matter too much what strain you choose within this group ā find something that stands out to you.
In general, the strongest magic mushroom strains are going to be things like Penis Envy, Tidal Wave, Albino Penis Envy, or White Rabbit.

This unique strain closely resembles Penis Envy, but the fruits take on an intense blue coloration. These shrooms are freeze-dried to preserve their shape and potency.

Mungusā Dancing Tiger shrooms are a good choice for beginners, microdosers, and those looking for a regular old cubensis mushroom thatās not as intense as the stronger strains on the list.
Amanita Muscaria Mushrooms in Canada š
We’ve seen a lot of vendors starting to sell a different species of mushroom, called the Amanita muscaria ā as an alternative to Psilocybe cubensis.
While we certainly love the effects of this mushroom, it’s nothing like that of traditional magic mushrooms. The Amanita muscaria mushroom does not contain psilocybin ā it contains a completely unrelated compound called muscimol instead.
Muscimol is much gentler, more lucid (the effects are best described as “dream-like”), and even a little bit sedating. It doesn’t last as long, and won’t give you the same sort of visuals or introspection as psilocybin-containing mushrooms.
With that said, they are completely legal both here in Canada ā as well as just about every other country around the world (including the United States). They are definitely trippy, and they can be extremely useful for inducing lucid dream states (see our full post on oneirogens).

Buying Shrooms On the Black Market: Harm Reduction Guide
The vast majority of people interested in sourcing magic mushrooms will be forced to order them from a black market vendor. This is the unfortunate reality of drug prohibition, even in places like Canada, where psychedelics are considered very low priority among law enforcement agencies.
Whether youāre obtaining shrooms from a local “street chemist” or turning to the darker side of the internet to source shrooms, there are some things to look out for to stay safe and have the best possible experience on shrooms.

1. Assess The Source
Ensuring a black market source is reliable can be difficult but not impossible. Try to get some background information on the ādealerā before buying shrooms from the black market.
If youāre shopping from the dark web or an illegal online source, itās wise to check reviews of the vendor and take to a forum such as Reddit to get as many second opinions from other magic mushroom users as possible. Doing this will (hopefully) help you find a trusted source before you spend your money.
If youāre heading to a local shroom dealer, you probably got their details from a friend or a friend of a friend. If possible, avoid buying shrooms from a stranger ā try to get a ārecommendationā and go to someone that a friend or acquaintance has purchased from before.
Once youāve found a trustworthy source ā or at least as trustworthy as possible ā check to ensure your shrooms are legit and safe to consume.
2. Consider Testing Your Shrooms
It’s important to know how to tell if the mushrooms you’ve purchased from the black market are legit before you consume them. Several mushrooms look the same, and when dried, magic mushrooms can be difficult to distinguish from other mushrooms.
Although it can be difficult to identify dried magic mushrooms, itās not impossible. There are a few things to look out for to ensure the shrooms youāve bought actually contain psilocybin.
Important note: If youāre not sure of a mushroomās identity, do not eat it.
The first thing to check for in a bag of dried mushrooms is blue bruising. Fresh mushrooms that contain psilocybin will often bruise blue on the stem or cap when harvested or handled.
In larger species (Psilocybe cubensis or Psilocybe azurescens), this blue staining can be seen on dried shrooms. In smaller species, such as Psilocybe semilanceata (Liberty Caps) or Psilocybe mexicana, the blue staining can be more difficult to observe due to the thin stems and small caps that are seen in dried samples.
Youāre most likely to receive Psilocybe cubensis shrooms when purchasing from an illicit source because they are the easiest to cultivate. Although itās harder to identify dried cubes, you may be able to observe some of the visual features associated with the species (color, cap, stem, etc.) before referencing a guide to attempt to ID the shrooms.
Finally, using a psilocybin test kit can help you determine whether psilocybin is present in the shrooms youāve purchased. Test kits such as the Miraculix QTest for Magic Mushrooms allow you to test for psilocybin and psilocin while providing an insight into the average potency of the shrooms.
These tests aren’t 100% accurate, but they are a good indicator of legitimacy when combined with observational factors.
3. Inspect For Mold or Contamination
People looking to make money through the illegal drug trade may not care about the quality of their products ā they often just want to make a quick buck. If a batch of shrooms is slightly off or moldy, most ābusinessmenā in the trade will distribute them anyway.
This doesnāt go for every black market dealer; some people genuinely care about their products and wouldnāt dream of selling mushrooms that are past their āsell-by date.ā
Smell
When checking them, the first thing to note is the smell. Psilocybin shrooms wonāt smell pleasant and often have cheesy notes. However, they shouldnāt smell damp or of mold or mildew.
Visual Inspection
Closely inspect the shrooms. If thereās any sign of green mold, fuzzy white mold, or dark black spots (mildew) on the caps or stems, avoid consuming them. If you see blue coloration, donāt stress ā as mentioned, psilocybin mushrooms often bruise blue.
Feel for Moisture
After noting the scent and appearance of the shrooms, gently snap the stems and caps ā they should crack audibly and cleanly. If they bend or feel squishy, there was moisture in the bag ā depending on how long theyāve been stored like this, they could harbor dangerous bacteria and/or mold.
How To Grow Magic Mushrooms At Home
Growing mushrooms at home is the best way to get ahold of psychedelic shrooms if they aren’t available through a trusted source or from the wild. When you grow your own mushrooms, you can be certain that they are legitimate and fresh and produce the right potency for your experience level.

1. Growing Shrooms With a Grow Kit
The easiest way to grow shrooms at home is to buy a magic mushroom grow kit (as listed above). These kits come with an inoculated substrate that is “ready to fruit.” Once the kit arrives, you only need to follow a few simple steps to ensure the mycelium has the optimum conditions to fruit. You can expect your first harvest from a ready-to-fruit grow kit in as little as one week.
Although grow kits are great, there aren’t as many options when it comes to Psilocybe cubensis strains or other psychedelic species to grow.
2. Growing Shrooms from Spores
The best (although not necessarily the easiest) way to grow shrooms at home is from spores. Sterile spore syringes can be used to create mycelium and produce psychedelic fruits. The process is more in-depth than growing mushrooms with a ready-to-fruit grow kit, but the results are often better and far more rewarding.
Growing magic mushrooms from spores doesn’t have to be difficult ā the most important thing is sterilization. Contaminants can quickly outcompete growing mycelium, so great care must be taken to ensure that the growing environment is as sterile as possible from inoculation through fruiting.
The easiest way is to utilize a cultivation technique known as PF Tek (Psilocybe Fanaticus Technique) since it requires minimal equipment and knowledge. Beginners can get decent yields of P. cubensis if they follow the correct steps.

1. Prepare the Growing Medium
First, prepare a growing medium by combining brown rice flour, water, vermiculite, or a simple grain, such as rye.
Fill a series of glass mason jars with the growing medium, then lightly seal and “cook” them in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes. Once 30 minutes is up, leave the jars in the pressure cooker to slowly cool. This process sterilizes the jars and makes the growing medium ready for the next step.
2. Inoculate the Substrate
Once the substrate-filled jars are sterilized, you can inoculate them with spores using a spore-filled syringe. Everything must be completely sterile during this step to avoid introducing contamination into the growing medium. The smallest contaminant can ruin a magic mushroom grow.
Inject two CCs of the spore-infused solution two centimeters into the substrate, then tightly seal the jars.
3. Incubate the Jars
Once the jars are inoculated, incubate them so the mycelium can form. You can make a simple incubator from an aquarium heater and a couple of plastic storage containers (learn how to make one in the “How to Grow Magic Mushrooms” link above).
Set the incubator at a temperature between 20 to 28 ĀŗC (68 to 82 ĀŗF) and leave it in a dark place until the jars have completely colonized with mycelium (usually two to three weeks). If successful, the substrate will be covered completely with a white thread-like organism.
4. Fruit the Mycelium Cakes
Once the jars are full of mycelium, remove the “mycelium cakes” from the jars and place them inside a simple fruiting chamber. The chamber must be kept moist and between 10 to 20 ĀŗC (50 to 68ĀŗF).
After three or four days, the first small mushrooms will appear.
5. Harvest the Shrooms
Harvest the mushrooms when they’re fully mature but before they drop their spores. If the spores drop, the colony might stop producing more mushrooms.
The mycelium cakes will continue to produce mushrooms until they eventually succumb to mold and stop producing fruits.

What Magic Mushroom Species Grow In Canada?

Psilocybe azurescens is famed for its unrivaled potency. Known as the most potent species of psilocybin-producing mushroom, these medium-sized shrooms are capable of producing up to 2.50% psilocybin ā over four times as strong as the average Psilocybe cubensis shroom.
